A Survey of Shijiazhuang University

　　Shijiazhuang University is located in Shijiazhuang City, the capital of Hebei Province. It is 280 kms to the south of Beijing, the capital of China. It has both a good geographical location and a favorable economic environment. Set up in 1956, the University in a comprehensive  institution of higher learning with seven branches—literature, law, science, polytechnic, economics, pedagogies and management.
　　There are 15 departments in the University: Law and Politics, Literature and Media, English, History, Pedagogies, Musicology, Arts, Physical Education, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Resources and Environment, Computer Science and Adult Education. There are 65 undergraduate and three-year college majors with a full-time student body of 12199.
　　The teaching and research staff of Shijiazhuang University is not only large in number, but also high in their teaching and research level. It has a staff of 829 with 495 full-time teachers. There are 195 professors and associate professors. There are also 39 part-time professors and five foreign experts. Among the teaching body, 17 have doctorates and 247 have master’s degrees.
　　There are two campuses (North Campus and South Campus) with 82 hektares of land and 350,000 square meters of floor space. The total values of the equipment and fixed assets are respectively 47,000,000 yuan (40 million RMB) and 500,000,000 yuan (500 million RMB).There are seven kinds of laboratories in the University: Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab, Resources and Environment Lab, Psychology Lab, Language Lab, Computer and Information Technology Lab and Modern Education Technology Lab. The University has a modern library with electronic book-searching system, electronic book-cataloging system and electronic reading room. The total book collection is 600,000 volumes. The facilities for physical education are advanced and complete.
　　Scientific research work is emphasized here in the University. There are four research institutes: Higher Education, Applied Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science. The University is prominent in the following fields of research work--Literature, Pedagogies, Education Technology, Applied Chemistry (Pharmacy), Environment Science, Homeless Children and Thinking Science. Eight academic organizations have their research bases in Shijiazhuang University. Some of the organizations are University Major Committee for The Association of China Education Technology, Hebei Branch of Thinking Science Affiliated to China Management Science Research Institute, Hebei Training Center for Inquiry Learning and Research Center for The Protection of The Waifs, which is the first of its kind in China. In the last three years, four national patents have been granted to the teachers of the University. Teachers published 96 books, which are either monographs or as textbooks, 1002 research papers that are at provincial or national lever periodicals. 33 research papers have been included in the citation of SCI or EI. 69 prizes at provincial or municipal levels have been awarded to the faculty.
